The Boone Town Council will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, to vote on a resolution authorizing the town’s finance director to apply to the Local Government Commission for approval of a $25 million issue of general obligation bonds.

New name for Realtors Association

The new proposed name for AWAR is the High Country Association of Realtors or “HI-CAR”. The Board of Directors also proposed a new tagline for the association that says, “All Real Estate is Local and So Are We”.



Regulators approve rules on disclosing home-sale bonuses

N.C. regulators voted today to approve a new rule that will require real estate agents to provide a written disclosure of bonuses they might receive from sellers before a buyer makes an offer to purchase a home.

The rule, which will help homebuyers know if their agent has an extra financial interest in showing them a home, is scheduled to take effect Oct. 1.

Boone Creek restoration project begins

Work has begun to restore and enhance a 150-foot section of Boone Creek that runs between Howard and Rivers streets in Boone. The affected portion of the creek runs from near the back of Café Portofino to the future location of the university’s Beasley Broadcasting Complex at the corner of Depot Street.

ASU to Build Soccer Stadium in Conjunction with HCSA, Watauga County

Beginning in 2008, Appalachian State University men�s and women�s soccer will play its home games in a state-of-the-art, 1,000-seat stadium that will anchor the brand-new Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex, ASU athletics announced in conjunction with the High Country Soccer Association (HCSA) and Watauga County on Thursday.

Optimistic Outlook for Luxury Vacation-Home Market

The outlook for owners of “prime property” – “the most desirable, and normally most expensive, property in a defined location” – notably for vacation homes, is much more optimistic, according to the 2008 Annual Wealth Report by property consultants, Knight Frank, and Citi Private Bank.

“The boom in second home ownership over the past decade will be nothing compared with the growth we will see over the next decade,” the report says.

Blue Ridge Parkway facilities open on a staggered basis beginning in April. It should be noted that Spring is a transitional time weather-wise in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Warm days can be followed quickly by a cold front that brings the return of winter conditions. It’s important to check weather forecasts prior to your drive.

Some Parkway facilities are open year round. These include the Museum of North Carolina Minerals (MP 331), Folk Art Center (MP 382) and Parkway Headquarters in Asheville.
